Are you in a band and want to make money playing? SELL TICKETS!
In the age of an ever decreasing attention span and today's hot is tomorrows not, one tried, tested, and true way to ensure a captive audience and put cheeks in seats is to sell tickets! Scenario 1: The Moldy Bearded Clams are against selling tickets and locked in a smaller local show. They are trying to recruit friends and fans (and sweet sweet moolah) to watch their breathtaking, one of a kind, ever unique performance. They dominate their fav social media website and make a posts/event pages/comments. They print up a few hundred flyers and hit the streets. Collectively, 100 people comment and commit promising they'll be there! AWESOME! You are the official Dive Bar Rock Star! Time to kick back, relax, and count all that future doe! D-DAY! Day of the gig!... 10 of those die hard dedicated fans actually show up.... TMBC looks like dbags to the venue/promoter/other bands for boasting about the 100 people that are going to be there. Actually, they make negative bank off the gig from having to factor in travel expenses, tab, etc. They did make a few bucks from selling a few CD's and shirts. Great! Right? Hey! They got exposure though, huh? Let's buy a new cymbal or amp with exposure... Not gunna happen. Sad panda. End Result: TMBC's singer goes into a fit of rage, and stabs the bassist with a frozen ear of corn. They break up one practice shy of finishing the smash hit single, "Clam Juice" which would have ultimately, took over the music world bumping Ed Sheern's "Shape of You" out of the top listened to song ever slot. Scenario 2: TMBC gets word that national touring band Utter Of Bull is going to be in their home town and after negotiating a pay cut and quantity expectations in advance they lock the gig and have tickets in hand! Same situation, they SLAY their fav social media website and make posts/event pages/comments promoting the gig and tickets to sell. They still print up those few hundred flyers and get out there, shaking babies and kissing hands. 200 people comment and commit buying tickets proving they'll be there! Stoked for the gig they practice extra hard and finish the song "Clam Juice". Gig Day! 180 people show up and you solidify your dominance as the "Next Big Thing". Debuting "Clam Juice" is an instant success! Selling out of merch and CD's combined with ticket sales you have just enough to buy on to the tour with Utter Of Bull and ride that m'fer into the sunset like a cheesy 1960's cowboy flick. Conclusion: Tickets = Bigger shows = Better possibilities of bigger paydays. Are there anomalies and alternate circumstances? Yup! There are unforeseen factors with every aspect of life. What I'm saying here is, TAKE YOUR OWN DESTINY! Book banging gigs. Smile more than yesterday, everyday! Cendro, out!
